James H. Messervy, Jr., known best as JJ, was born and raised in Dorchester County . He is a graduate of Summerville High School and an honor graduate of the University of South Carolina . While at USC, JJ received a Bachelors degree in Finance and Risk Management.

Since returning from college, JJ has been very involved in his community, including holding several leadership positions. He is past fundraising chairperson, Vice President, and President of the Francis R. Willis SPCA, located in Summerville, where he still volunteers. He enjoyed many of his duties at the FRWSPCA, but took the most pride in running of the non-profit's largest fundraiser for 4 years--the annual SPCA Oyster Roast. This event saw unprecedented growth under JJ's leadership and now is the SPCA's largest fundraising event every year. In 2009 JJ was recognized by the Charleston Animal Society and given their highest honor, of Humanitarian of the year. JJ is currently the Treasurer for the Summerville Exchange Club, where he also serves as co-chair of their fundraising committee. JJ has served on the Miler County Club Board of Directors for 5 consecutive years. JJ is the co-founder and acting past president of the Summerville Young Professional council.

In 2008, JJ was given the opportunity to volunteer as the Public Address Announcer for the Summerville High School football games and wrestling matches. He looks forward to continuing those duties in the future. In 2009 JJ was honored as one of Charleston 's "TOP 40 Under 40" by the Charleston Regional Business Journal. When he is not working for the Taxpayers of Dorchester County or volunteering, JJ enjoys playing golf and working in his yard. JJ, his wife and newborn son, along with their two shelter cats, live in Summerville.
